Security  HIPAA and Patient Privacy

Patient name and the last four digits of the patient's Social Security Number act as a "log-on" for password protection, and a connection to patient demographics.  The program uses no “cookies,” but instead uses direct authorization for log-on access.  “Time out” settings are incorporated so that after a predetermined time interval, the patient’s database cannot be reentered until the next visit when data is to be recollected, or to complete an unfinished questionnaire.

If the patient attempts to access the database prior to the preset time of the next visit, they are given a message explaining that they need to return at the appropriate interval.

Patient Log in Screen

If the patient misses the interval by a few days, the option is available to alternatively input their data using "administration" utilities to bypass the interval lockout.  All follow-up visits are calculated based upon actual days from the preoperative evaluation, and data is locally analyzed based upon real times from surgery or treatment.  All of these parameters are easily changed.  In this way, the complexity of real data collection can be minimized while the volume of valuable data is maximized using less office personnel time and effort.
